Connection & Belonging

Black Mamas Village is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging and connection among Black mothers and the broader community. Central to this vision is the cultivation of sisterhood and social support, helping Black mothers build lifelong relationships through their families, children, and shared experiences. Recognizing the challenges of balancing work, parenting, and personal interests, the organization was founded to help Black mothers find their people, places, and activities, fostering a supportive and thriving community.

Belonging

Belonging is a cornerstone of Black Mamas Village, representing the bonds of solidarity and support among Black women. This network uplifts, empowers, and creates a safe space for Black women to celebrate their identities, amplify their voices, and navigate life's complexities together. Initiatives under this pillar include:

Mom Meetups: Providing a safe and supportive environment for Black mothers to connect, share experiences, and build strong bonds. These meetups foster lasting friendships and a supportive network, empowering mothers to discuss their unique challenges and triumphs.

Playdates: Offering opportunities for children to interact with peers from similar backgrounds, sharing experiences and traditions essential to their cultural identity. Playdates help children build friendships, empathy, and a sense of belonging, instilling a positive self-image and a strong cultural foundation.

Meal Trains: Organizing home-cooked meals for those in need, alleviating the burden of cooking and shopping during challenging times. Meal trains provide practical help and create a sense of belonging and solidarity within the community.

Facebook Geographic Subgroups: Enabling individuals in specific regions to connect, share experiences, and exchange valuable information. These subgroups foster a stronger sense of belonging and camaraderie, empowering members to mobilize for positive change within their communities.

Connection

Black Mamas Village also focuses on connecting with the Greater Austin community, including mission-aligned organizations, businesses, and individuals. Building these relationships amplifies the voices and needs of Black mothers, fostering unity, support, and resilience. Key initiatives include:

Resource Navigation: Connecting members to broader community resources, including educational programs, professional development opportunities, and support services. This enhances the overall well-being and growth of members, ensuring they have the tools needed to thrive.

By prioritizing sisterhood and community connection, Black Mamas Village cultivates a resilient and thriving Black community where every individual can flourish and contribute to a shared vision of equality, justice, and progress.
