Everything That We Need is Already Here…

How We Serve the Village

  • Connection & Belonging

Building relationships and community can be hard when you are busy working, parenting, and a showing up every day. The sisterhood and social initiatives and activities are designed to forge and foster relationships between Black mamas, their children and their families. Various programs and events are facilitated by fellow mothers and the sisterhood and social leadership team to decrease silos and help mamas find their people, places, and things. This is the heart of our vision: to create a community where every Black mother belongs.

  • Economic Empowerment

Financial stability is critical for everyone. For Black mamas in Austin, this can be accomplished in a variety of ways. The economic empowerment team is committed to helping provide financial assistance to those in crisis through our emergency fund, provide opportunities for education, and facilitate small business growth and entrepreneurship. We understand that providing help and empowering mamas to build wealth and connect to resources means less stress and a higher quality of life for them and their families.

  • Health & Wellness

At Black Mamas Village, we understand that prioritizing health can be challenging for mothers who juggle numerous responsibilities. Black mothers, in particular, face significant health inequities that compound these challenges, including higher rates of pregnancy-related complications and chronic conditions. To address these disparities, we focus on mental health support and provide culturally informed health education. Our aim is to empower Black mothers with the knowledge and resources they need to prioritize their well-being and navigate the unique health challenges they face, ensuring that they can thrive both physically and mentally.
